On November 21st it snowed for the first time! It is pretty amazing to see snow that comes straight down. This is not a common occurrence in West Texas. I am told that this is normal for here and that much more snow is coming! When I first saw the snow comming straight down I went out side and danced in the snow!

I was having a down day and one of the parents of the students in my class asked what was one thing I really missed from home. I told them I missed macaroni and cheese. I am not sure what made me think of saying that, but the next day they brought me a box of macaroni and cheese!

Pumpkin and pancakes
We were studying pumpkins in my Kindergarten class so I decided they needed to taste pumpkin. I found this great recipe for pumpkin pancakes. I got ready to make it and realized that you cannot get canned pumpkin over here. I had to get slices of raw pumpkin, cook it and then put it in the mix for the pancakes. Needless to say this whole process took a lot longer than I had expected, but I guess that is just how things work here in Central Asia! The pancakes were good. My pancake flipping skills need a little work but by the end I had gotten the hang of it and they were a hit with my kindergarteners!

We had a special spirit day and the theme was Storybook character or super hero dress up day. I decided to be the grown up Anne from Anne of Avonlea. I brought the book with me and the cover shows a lady with red hear and a puffy bun, blue skirt and black skirt. I had all the necessary things to pull it off, so that morning I got up early and worked so hard to put my hear in a puffy bun. I figured that my kindergarteners would not get who I was supposed to be so I brought the book to school with me. I showed it to my kiddos and one of them said, “Miss Blythe you are famous you are on the front of a real book!” Another asked, “Miss Blythe why would someone paint your picture?” I tried to explain that I was just dressing up like they were but they still think that I am on the cover of a book!

I have found a place of escape in this big noisy city. A friend told me that I had to visit Gorky Park. My visit there was amazing. It is so big that the sounds of the city and traffic fade away! I was able to walk and just enjoy the stillness that surrounded me. (these pictures were taken three weeks ago, before the snow).
