I found out that all of the middle school and highschool girls on my team (6 girls) love the movie Anne of Greengables. I had them over to celebrate my birthday by watching the movie. I decided to try to mke popcorn which should have been quite easy except fot the fact that we don't have a microwave. I tried to make it on the stove but I turned the heat up too high and burnt the first batch so badly that we had to oppen the windows even though it was below freezing outside. I reluctanly tried again and this time it turned out great! I had a blast with the girls; it was awsome to sit with them and quote our favorite lines together!

I was surprised to recieve flowers for my birthday. My dad figured out how to order flowers and get them to me even thought I am over five thousand miles away! The flowers were a beautiful surprise and a sweet reminder of home! Here is Central Asia it is very bad to give even numbers of flowers (it means death and sadness) so I had 7 beautiful pink roses in my bouquet.

I made my self a cheesecake because I wanted one like I would have at home. My mom sent me the pan and the ingredients I could not find here and I made myself a birthday cake. (Who wouls have thought that I could find cream cheese here!) For supper that night Sally Katherine and Gladys tried to fix me a real Texas meal. We tried to make barbeque beef. The meat was good but not quite barbeque. Sally Katherine decided to make french fries and we had beans as well. Not quite waht I would eat in Texas but it was made with lots of love and laughter plus there was cheese cake for desert!

Ready... Set... BOLW!

My sweet roommate.

I dreaded this day because I had never experienced a birthday away from family. However, when the time came for my birthday I realized that Dad had bl*ssed me with more family. My birthday was very very different from any I had every had before, but it was amazingly good. I wished for my family on that day but I was not home sick. I now have many precious memories of my first birthday in Cental Asia!

Happy (belated) Birthday! I'm so glad it was a good one- and I can't believe you've managed to get this far in life without a birthday away from home- lucky girl!
Did those girls buy you some striped socks too?

Happy Birthday! I'm jealous that you guys get to wear sweaters and have snow for Christmas. Maybe I'll go to the movies... they keep the theaters here below freezing.
Happy birthday and I love your sweatshirt!!!
